Kent Women begin their Championship title hunt with two wins
Kent begin their championship title hunt with two wins out of 2 at the weekend.
Sunday was a home game against Yorkshire at Upchurch CC. Kent won the toss and batted, amassing 265 in their 50 overs. Top scorer was Charlotte Edwards 129 , who , with Tammy Beaumont (86) put on a massive 226 for the first wicket .
In reply Yorkshire never really looked likely to get near the mark. After top scoring opener Lauren Winfield was out for 40 , only 2 batsmen got into double figures and Yorkshire were all out for just 92.
On Monday Kent travelled to Edmondton CC in Middlesex where the day was a little cooler and the game much tighter.
Kent lost the toss this time and were put into bat. Kent made 231, Tammy Beaumont again shone with the bat, top scoring with 53 and Laura Marsh making 50 .
In reply Kent were made to work hard, and were down to 10 fielders towards the end of the game after Charlotte Pape and Deanna Cooper were injured. Middlesex took advantage and looked to be moving ever closer to the target. However the Kent bowling attack was too much for them in the end and despite Anna Nichols batting at number 8, getting a rapid 41, they still ended up 34 runs short.
Next game is Warwickshire at home on Sunday 25th May at the Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence, Canterbury.
